Keep cool – new technology, old problem of efficient cooling
Modern electric motors have to be strongly cooled during operation in order to guarantee functionality and performance. In the automotive industry, for example, reduced development times and increasing cost pressure lead to the need to fix the design of the cooling system at an early stage in the development process. Due to the geometric complexity and inefficient modeling tools, a simulative evaluation has so far only been unsatisfactory.
The CFD modeling of the cooling system with SIMERICS MP + now offers the user the possibility of anchoring an early simulative evaluation and a systematically fast optimization in the development process before expensive prototypes are manufactured.
SIMERICS MP + offers the possibility of calculating modern electric motors completely three-dimensionally transient. A coupled simulation of a multiphase fluid flow (VOF) and a conjugate heat transfer between fluid and solid body (CHT) is used to calculate the electric motor as a whole transiently thermally.
